For my entire life, I’ve been an entrepreneur in the trenches. Often running 3 or more businesses simultaneously.
I’ve been there. I’ve done it. I’ve ground out hard work for decades.
I understand firsthand that entrepreneurs are built like no other human being. Part crazy – part renaissance man (or woman). We are simply built differently. It’s my belief that the average entrepreneur faces more in a typical week than most “corporate types” face in a year.
We have to understand every facet of our business, we have to motivate ourselves to keep going when we have absolutely no idea if it’s going to work, or that if it does it’s going to pay the bills. Sometimes we face all of this alone when it’s the hardest; when the people we know love and trust tell us we are fools (more on that later). And only once the car has four shiny wheels invite others along for the ride.
We work tirelessly with no guarantees, only to be told at the end how “lucky” we were.
I get it. I get you.
I’ve helped countless friends, clients, and colleagues get started who simply had an idea but didn’t have the structure or the motivation to take the first step. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “Teach me, man! I have to know how you do it!!”.
Despite not having any children of my own, I coached baseball at a competitive level for over a decade in Charlotte, NC. Half a dozen of my boys went on to be drafted in the MLB and even played on the Olympic team. Years later, I’ve felt the overwhelming sense of gratitude that comes when one of them stops you on the street, shares where they’re at in life, and how something you said when they were just a teenager changed their life for the better. Some words you shared impact their lives to this day. It’s a feeling that’s hard to describe, honestly.
The same has happened with business owners I’ve mentored.
At 42 and financially independent, I have the privilege to sit down, reflect and share my little bit of wisdom with the world. If the words on these pages or the time I spend with clients individually can change the trajectory of even one life… the effort was worth it. Why are any of us here if not to improve the lives of those around us? We get what we give in this world, right? So I give all of this to you.
I’m glad you’re here.
